It is unbelievable, but here we are: living our last full week in Florence! Time went by just too fast... and we already are feeling nostalgic! But for now we have no time for that. The past week has been just as busy as it has been incredible. We explored the secret paths in Palazzo Vecchio, we learned how to live Florence as de Medici's family used to in an Art History Workshop with our instructor Paulina, we climbed the Dome and the Bell tower, and we walked up to Piazzale Michelangelo to breath in Florence and its view from up high. We also felt very Italian playing soccer in a calcetto field as Italians use to do; and as real Italians we took care of the fashion aspect of this culture visiting the Gucci Museum and the Costume Museum to have a sense of what Italian fashion has been during the centuries. A break at the pool on Thursday was just what we needed before an evening full of artistic events such as the exhibit we visited at Palazzo Strozzi: Americani a Firenze and American Dreamers that made us feel just a little bit more part of this beautiful city (as Americans and artists in Florence!). Friday night was just the perfect day because after an intense day of classes we went to the Movie Theatre. Are you already picturing us trying to catch up Italian words here and there, or following English subtitles? No, luckily Florence -as the international city it is- has a beautiful Cinema right next to Palazzo Strozzi that has American movies in English. We watched Snow White and the Hunter and it was great! Especially before such a week end!! On Saturday we had our day trip to Pisa and Viareggio. Pisa is just as beautiful as you can see in the pictures, and that tower is just hard to believe how it can stand! In Viareggio we spent a beautiful afternoon on the beach and finally the staff revealed to us the mysterious activity we had for the evening: we went to the disco!!! We danced and had fun and we were so excited that the next day we had all the energies to go to the second day trip of the week: Lucca. Another beautiful city in Tuscany, Lucca is also famous for its Renaissance-era city walls that we walked and on what we posed for another beautiful group picture! In Lucca we also rode bikes as locals lucchesi use to do in their everyday life, and after visiting the town we had a delicious dinner at Buralli Restaurant, one of the best restaurants in Lucca. We had tasty tomatoes and zucchini, pesto, and provolone bruschette, a delicious spelt risotto with eggplants, penne with provola cheese and zucchini, and a typical lucchese dessert. Taking the Italian train has been our last Italian experience of the week.
This week went by really fast and these memories seem to be too present and actual to be part of our past! This week is already on, and everyday we are living like this month will never end! Florence is the witness and the cause of this love!
Ciao a tutti!
