After singing "Buon compleanno" to Cornelia for her 18th B'day, Friday night Florence became our art studio: we went out looking for the most inspiring spots for shooting and drawing "our" Florence with the Photography instructor Eleni and the Drawing teacher Lindsay.
The next day, on Sunday,we had our day trip to San Gimignano and Siena. Very different from the Florentine feeling of a contemporary and modern city with a strong memory of its past, San Gimignano is a small walled Medieval hill town in the province of Siena. It is mainly famous for its Medieval architecture, especially its towers, which may be seen from several kilometres outside the town. Founded as a small village in the third century BC by the Etruscan, San Gimignano is emblematic -as other cities in Italy such as Bologna or Firenze- for its towers. Most of the towers has been destroyed by wars, catastophes, or urban renewal, but San Gimignano conserves today fourteen towers which have become its international symbol and... we climbed one of these towers!
However, we did not get tired and after arriving to Siena and visiting Saint Catherine Church and the Dome we also climbed the main tower in Piazza del Campo! For sure we deserved tonight our delicious group dinner at Da Gano Trattoria with its fresh pastas, bruschettas, and salads! Buon Appetito!
Following the Italian traditions, as Italian we relaxed Sunday morning. The day was perfect to spend it at the pool and to have a pizza party together in the patio! Residence night after dinner was a success: the game Word Assassin oficially started (watch out you all: from now on we cannot trust anyone!), and Abbey Road Florentine family is preparing a surprise!
Next week it will be already our third week in Florence! Time goes by very fast, but we are enjoying every single second (and bite)!!
A presto!
